Over the past few years, they have been growing again in popularity, and I have to say that I love that this special tradition is coming back! And no, this is not just a “southern trend”. These portraits have been around for decades in many different countries!

Heirloom sessions are an important milestone in your son or daughter’s childhood, and I truly believe it is vital to capture these memories to pass down to future generations. It is not only a memory for you to enjoy, but your children, grandchildren and even your greatgrandchildren will thank you! As I’ve gotten older, I truly appreciate this type of art. It is so special to “go down memory lane” and get a peek into the life of our ancestors. I always encourge my clients to print the photos from their sessions and get them up on their walls and in albums. These heirloom images are especially important to preserve through wall art, as they provide a tangible keepsake in your family’s history.

The best age for these beautiful vignetted photos are best captured from sitters (6-8 months) through the age of 8, although any childhood age is better than not having these memories at all! It is never too late to start a new family tradition or continue one that was started in your own family many generations ago. These sessions can be done in as little as 15 minutes, but I will spend the right amount of time your child needs to capture these shots. Heirloom sessions can be done in the studio or in your own home! You can even gather some of your closest friends and make a party of it!
